Job Summary
The primary objective of the job is to install, maintain and repair telecommunication equipment and appliances in homes, businesses, telephone exchanges and other network sites.
Responsibilities and Duties
Installations
- Demonstrate and understand the concepts of data communication and computer networking including those in LAN, MAN and WAN
- Plan, design and troubleshoot local and wide area network infrastructure such as Wireless, Landline telephones and Routers
- Monitor data network, perform troubleshoot and repair and replace Fibre, CAT5 and CAT6 cables
- Configuration of TelNet IP Address
- Install, maintain and repair telecommunication equipment and appliances, such as telephones, mobile telephones, switchboards and data transmission equipment, in homes, business, telephone exchanges and other network sites.
- Measure the signal quality of TV, phone and web associations to ensure there is satisfactory execution.
- Make sensors and perform examinations to ensure that the fiber optic frameworks don’t have absconds that could undermine execution.
- Assess frameworks to identify and repair any defects recognised.
Telephone Circuit Identification and Analysis
- Obtain telephone circuit work sheets/ records from the customer.
- Make decisions in conjunction with the customer on procedures, such building cable routing and penetration.
- Update telephone circuit records.
- Determine tools and equipment needed.
- Perform premises cabling and running fiber optic cables underground and inside buildings.
- Identify solutions for any issues that are keeping the fiber optic frameworks from optimum performance.
- Develop an appropriate splice case, including the relevant records, charts and schematics
UFB Project
- Install fiber optic cable for Ultra-Fast Broadband Project
- Joint and test fiber optic cable
- Terminate cable and install of electrical components
- Troubleshoot fiber faults, and report accordingly
- Provision and install new ultra-fast broadband to business customers
- Run new conduits and cable across floors inside buildings

- Provided timely and accurate reporting of any incidents, following the correct procedures
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience for and Requirement of the Role
- Work experience and familiarity with necessary equipment
- Relevant trade certificate(s) – Complete (a must)
- WTC 1
- Traffic Management: Level 1 Traffic Control (L1 TC)
- First Aid
- Site Safe (Building Construction Passport) or Australian White Card
- Familiarity with working on telecommunications networks in NZ
- Familiarity with basic test equipment
- Have an Electrical background and building wiring.
- Knowledge in Fiber optic and telephone cable.
- Have a good experience in troubleshooting Building Maintenance in all aspect.
- Good mathematical, analytical and practical skills
- Familiarity with basic and standard telecommunication practices
- Knowledge in network equipment configuration, fault finding and resolution
- Knowledge in telecommunication plan reading and interpretation.
